Safari + Google Reader

Posted by: Shinji Kuwayama In: Tech Tips

Quick tip for users of “Google Reader”:https://www.google.com/reader/view/ and Safari.

Although Safari allows you to set a default RSS reader, it’s limited to desktop clients such as Mail.app, Vienna, or NetNewsWire. So, if you want to be able to click on a feed link (or RSS icon) and have that “handled”, you’ll want to install:

*Google Reader Notifier*

Here’s the tip:
The Notifier app actually works better for me if I _don’t_ provide it with my Google account information.

If it’s not able to log in to Google, it will simply pass the subscribe request to Google Reader in a new Safari window. This gives me the opportunity to tag the new subscription right away, which isn’t possible when Notifier subscribes to things automatically. This also saves me the trouble of turning off all of Notifier’s notification settings (because there are _always_ new posts).

Always nice to do less, isn’t it?
